State Electric Company (STELCO) has said that the electrical load is bigger during the day than when lighting up the decorative LED lights.
Due to a problem with their main engine, STELCO has decided to initiate blackouts in different parts of Malé City until 3 p.m. today.
Media Coordinator of STELCO, Ibrahim Rauf told Sun Media today that although a large number of decorative lights are used during the night, the electrical load is biggest during the daytime.
“Since air conditions are more in using during the day, the load is bigger during the day than at night, what happens at night is that the air conditions used are less since it’s cold these days and since the workshops are close, the use of heavy machinery are less, that’s why blackouts are during the day and not at night.” Rauf.
Rauf said that even if blackouts are initiated, they would resume power before an hour is up.
The STELCO Media Coordinator said that they believe that the spare parts for the damaged generator would be brought in this month, make the repairs and resume normal services within the month.
