Schools reopen with extra hours to cover the syllabus

Education Ministry has said that they have set regulations to cover the syllabus has schools across the country are being reopened after being closed for a month due to Dengue Fever.

State Minster of the Education Ministry, Ahmed Shafeeu told Sun Media today that they have asked the schools to cover ten months of the syllabus during school hours and extra hours without opening schools on holidays.

“We have instructed the schools mainly to take extra hours connected to regular session hours instead of the Ministry making a decision.” Shafeeu said.

The schools across the country were closed on 30 June under the instructions from the task force established to control Dengue Fever.

State Minister Shafeeu said that holidays according to the Ministry’s Calendar would be given to the students.

According to the Ministry’s Calendar, the next holiday for the schools would be after the midterms from 30 August to 3 September.

Shafeeu said that while the schools have been reopened today, there won’t be any problems such as insufficient teachers.

The year’s final examination is set to be held between 4 - 18 November. The academic calendar ends on 24 November.

While more than 64,000 students are in the schools across the country, this year’s academic calendar began with a new syllabus. Under the new syllabus, changed have been made to the hours students spend in school and to the material being taught. And new text books have been introduced with the new syllabus.
