Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Solih (Ibu) has said that MDP is not holding discussions with the Home Minister Umar Naseer alone.
In an interview with Sun Media tonight, Ibu said that MDP is “talking with” the government and that does not mean it’s only the Home Minister Umar Naseer.
He said that as it is on the MDP’s statement, the government has failed to fulfill some of the agreements to be fulfilled before 26 July.
“We are taking with the government. That means we’re not just talking to Umar Naseer alone. Meaning it’s not only those talks. There are things the government has agreed to do. Those things haven’t happened yet.” Ibu said.
When asked if the things agreed by the government were made outside the meetings chaired by Umar Naseer, Ibu said that they are discussing with the government.
“This is all I can say. We are talking with the government.” Ibu said.
Ibu said that talking to the press after the latest meeting at the President’s Office as Minister Umar Naseer as the chair, they said that the Independence Day celebrations would be as everyone together after the government agreed to do the things MDP requested.
The Leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibu did not say which of the agreed terms were met by the government and which they have failed to deliver.
Responding to the question, Ibu said that they have agreed that the information shared to the media to be decided by both parties and so cannot share those details.
A meeting of the MDP Congress was held today to share the progress of the talks with the government.
Ibu said that nothing was passed in that meeting and it was only a meeting of discussions.
Home Minister Umar Naseer told Sun Media today that the government has not agreed to do any terms presented at the meetings he chaired with MDP.
Umar Naseer was assigned as the chairperson for the meetings with MDP by the President, Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom.
