Power outages are possible if electricity usage increases as people return to work following Independence Day holidays, State Electric Company (STELCO) has warned.
Government offices reopened today after a three-day break.
STELCO said in an announcement that one of its main generators, which broke down about three weeks ago, has still not been repaired.
The company has urged the public to reduce electricity consumption between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
It has also apologised for the inconvenience and assured that work is ongoing to fix the problem.
Electricity consumption has gone up in Male’ by an estimated 2.5 megawatts, due to light decorations for the 50th Independence Day celebrations.
