Health Protection Authority (HPA) has said that there had been over 800 cases of dengue reported within the last two weeks.
Latest statistics published by HPA this week shows that there had been 813 cases of dengue reported from the whole country – 382 cases of which were reported from the capital, Male’.
The most reported cases of dengue from the atolls came from Baa Atoll.
The fast spread of dengue in Maldives has had government taking measures such as closing down schools.
Speaking in a press conference held at Health Ministry on July 13, HPA communicable disease head Dr Fathimath Nazla said that the biggest challenge to treating dengue victims in the atolls was that doctors in the atolls did not have sufficient knowledge of dengue.
HPA said that they had therefore requested World Health Organization (WHO) to run an online training course on dengue for doctors that came to Maldives, in an effort to stamp the spread of the disease.
