President of Sri Lanka arrives in the Maldives for the Independence Day celebrations

President of Sri Lanka, Maithripala Sirisena has arrived in the Maldives to take part in the celebrations of the country’s 50th Independence Day.

The Sri Lankan President was welcomed at Ibrahim Nasir International Airport by the Vice President, Ahmed Adheeb Abdul Gafoor, Foreign Minister, Dhunya Maumoon, Environment Minister, Thoriq Ibrahim, the Minister for the President’s Office, Mohamed Hussain Shareef and other officials of the Government.

Aside from the President of Sri Lanka, senior officials from different countries have come to the Maldives to take part in the celebrations.

President Sirisena was greeted by the the Maldivian President, Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom when he arrived in Malé.

Following the red carpet welcome, the Sri Lankan president was greeted with a seven-gun salute. And after the national anthem of the two countries, President Sirisena entered the President’s Office and signed the honorary guest book.
