Home Minister: I did not agree to release President Nasheed

Home Minister Umar Naseer has said that he did not agree to release the former president Mohamed Nasheed.

The Home Minister told Sun Media tonight that MDP has always been proposing the release of President Nasheed but he did not agree to at any of the discussions with MDP.

“I have never agreed to the free of the former president Mohamed Nasheed. You can ask the leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih (Ibu). Ibu won’t say that I agree to free President Nasheed.” Home Minister said.

President Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom assigned the Home Minister Umar Naseer to be the chair at the discussions with MDP.

As tomorrow is the Independence Day, MPs of MDP has been voicing their disapproval about the government failing to release President Nasheed.

There has been no word from leader of the MDP Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih as he is not responding to Sun Media’s attempts to contact him.

MDP issued a press statement last night saying that they have delivered on the terms agreed with the government but the government has failed to do so.
