Abdulla Shahid: I made no statement against MDP

Former Speaker of People’s Majilis, North-Henveiru MP Abdulla Shahid has said that he had no involvement in the press statement released against Maldivian Democratic Party on Saturday.

In an interview with Sun Online, Shahid said that though he had voted in favour of the amendment to Constitution allowing for foreigners to gain ownership of land, he had not made any statement against MDP in relation to that.

Shahid said that he had not signed the statement released to media in the name of the 10 people who voted in favour of the amendment and denied any knowledge such a statement was about to be released.

“Blatantly false. If something of mine were to be released it should be in my name. With my signature. It’s very sad what happened.”
