The MDP MPs that voted for the Government’s amendment to allow foreign ownership of land has raised their concerns since MDP has not revealed the truth about what happened although they are being blamed and criticized.

The members who voted the amendment issued a press statement today saying that they voted for the amendment of foreign ownership of land under agreements made as part of the MDP negotiations with the government to aid through MDP’s Parliamentary Group.

“Leader of the MDP’s Parliamentary Group, Ibrahim Mohamed Soalih (Ibu) has been given the choice and power to negotiate with the government with the unanimous decision of the President of MDP, Mohamed Nasheed, MDP’s Congress, MDP’s National Executive Committee and the Parliamentary Group. He has clearly shared the things agreed to in the negotiations to the Parliamentary Group. And we (those who voted for the amendment) were requested to vote for the amendment of changing the Presidential candidacy bill, the impeachment of the Vice President Jameel, to give approval for the Vice President and vote for the amendment of the land bill.” The statement said.

The statement says that although that’s how things stood, the leader of the Parliamentary Group requested the Parliamentary Group to bring out a “free line whip.”

MP of the Maradhoo constituency, Ibrahim Shareef told Sun Media today the MDP leadership did things very wrong and after asking to vote for the bill of foreign land ownership, some people did not vote as such. And he said that that was something done to “discredit” them and it is “sacrificing” them.
