The opportunity has been opened interested participants to compete in creating embroidery (kasabu) on necklines and creating products using authentic Maldivian kasabu work.
Economic Ministry issued an announcement last week saying that president had decided to award individuals who are involved in fading traditional work under the category of “working and creating to the standard determined by government.”
The announcement said that president had therefore decided to give the award to the individual who produces the best product either by kasabu work on necklines or creating products using authentic Maldivian kasabu work.
“Therefore to determine who will be given this award, we open the opportunity to all to participate in the competition and bring forward products whether it be kasabu work on necklines or products created using authentic Maldivian kasabu work in order to put out as many of these products to the market and provide the opportunity to win this prestigious award to as many people as possible,” read the announcement.
According to Economic Ministry; dresses, bags, accessories or decorative items made using kasabu work can be included in the competition.
Those who want to participate in the competition have to express their interest to Economic Ministry before 2:00 pm, September 30th.
The special awards are handed out during the official ceremony held on occasion of Republic Day.
President’s Office has said that the purpose of the special awards was to celebrate the success of individuals who bring good name to the country and success of those individuals who win awards through their courage and talent. Directing Maldivians’ productivity and creativity to areas that the country needs is another purpose of the awards.
