The Government has said that the Prosecutor General (PG)’s decision to appeal former President Nasheed’s case would not impede the Government’s negotiations with MDP.
Spokesperson of the President’s Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali tweeted last night saying that he does not believe that any decision from an independent institute of the state would hinder official talks with MDP.

Spokesperson Muaz has said this after MDP raised concerns with the Prosecutor General’s decision on Thursday to appeal President Nasheed’s case who is currently serving a 13-year prison sentence.
The statement from the PG Office said that the Prosecutor General decided to do so following a request on behalf of President Nasheed under the power granted to the Prosecutor General under Article 223-I of the Constitution.
Although the Spokesperson of the President’s Office has said that the PG’s actions won’t hinder negotiations, MDP has said that they have held up their end of the bargain and called to the Government to hold up theirs.
Among the things agreed by the Government include the release of President Nasheed and other political prisoners. And MDP also requested a solution to the investigations and trials of 1700 people.
