MDP has said that they have made good on the things agreed in their talks with the Government and has called on the Government to hold up their end of the bargain.
The statement on issued on the MDP’s website says that they “negotiated in good faith.”
“The MDP calls on the Government and the international community to proceed with the Independence Day celebrations while showing good faith in delivering on the pledges made during the talks.” The statement says.
MDP says that the Government agreed to the release of the former President Mohamed Nasheed and other political prisoners. And MDP also requested a solution to the investigations and trials of 1700 people.
The statement also contained details of the terms agreed by MDP.
It says that the MDP brought out a three-line whip to vote on the amendment to change the candidacy ages on the President and the Vice President.
MDP’s statement said that the Government would agree to their terms only if they would support the impeachment of the Vice President.
The statement from MDP says that they complied when they were asked to bring their street protests to a halt.
“Finally, the government asked the MDP to issue a moratorium on street protests and actions, which the MDP complied with.” The statement said.
MDP say that they issued a free whip line on Government amendment that led to foreign ownership of land. Although some MPs of MDP voted for the bill.
