Sun Online has learned from credible sources that it has been decided that former President Mohamed Nasheed will serve the remaining part of his 13-year prison sentence in house arrest.
There are rumours that Nasheed, who was transferred from prison to house arrest on 21 June 2015, will be released soon.
Nasheed will spend his time in house arrest at his wife’s house, M. Yaagothuge.
Nasheed was sentenced to 13 years in prison in March 2015 for ordering the abduction in 2012, during his presidency, of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed.
Since Nasheed’s transfer to house arrest, MPs of his party and main opposition, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), have been voting in support of bills pushed by the government.
