STELCO has advised to reduce the use electricity after one of the two biggest generators used to generate electricity for Malé City has been broken.
Manager of STELCO, Ibrahim Rauf told Sun Media today that a long time would be needed to repair the generator since it is a major issue.
“…A major technical issue to the generator. Need some spare parts from aboard to repair it. So a lot of time is needed. Estimate about two weeks.” Rauf said.
A press release from STELCO this morning said that a one generator has been turned off to make repairs hence the electricity generated for the city would be less. It also said that if the electrical use is high, there would be blackouts in different areas.
“…so we advise to reduce electrical use and be especially mindful when using things that require high electrical power.” Says the statement.
The company has also said that they apologize for any inconvenience to their customers.
Managing Director Rauf said that if there is an instance that a blackout at an area has to be forced due to high electrical consumption, it would be for about an hour. And after resuming power to that area, the next blackout would be from another area.
