National team captain Ali Ashfaq has announced that he would not be playing for Malaysia XI in the match against Liverpool FC on 24 July, due to an ankle injury during training.
Ashfaq said on his official Facebook page, “Suffered an ankle injury during a training session in Malé and I won’t be able to play for Malaysia XI on their match against Liverpool FC next Friday.”
In May this year, Ashfaq played for a Malaysian team in a match against Tottenham Hotspur.
Liverpool played in Thailand on 14 July and is scheduled to visit Malaysia and Australia over the coming weeks.
Liverpool’s 30-player squad for its Asia tour initially included Raheem Sterling, who has since transferred to Manchester City.
