The General Committee of the Parliament has passed that the duration of the debate on the President’s nomination for the Vice President would be a duration of one hour.
The committee decided at the meeting held today to make a decision about the amendment to passing a President’s nominee for the Vice President.
The amendment was passed with the unanimous vote of all the members who attended the meeting.
While the amendment has been made to the Parliament Regulations, no specific duration is set by the regulation on the debate on the President’s nomination for the Vice President.
The General Committee also made another amendment to the Parliament Regulations. That is, an amendment that allows speeding the Parliament approval for the President’s nomination for the Vice President.
This amendment would allow the Parliament to take the vote on the day the members received the research on the nominee by the committee.
Although the committee has passed this amendment, it can only take effect after going through the Parliament floor.
There is already a no confidence motion at the Parliament against the Vice President, Dr. Mohamed Jameel Ahmed to remove him from power. The members of the PPM’s Parliamentary Group are saying that they want the Tourism Minister, Ahmed Adheeb to be the next Vice President.
Although the Parliament is at recess at the moment, MPs of PPM are said that they believe a session would be held before the Independence Day and assign Minister Adheeb as the new Vice President.
