MP for the Vili-Malé constituency and the President of the PPM’s Parliamentary Group, Ahmed Nihaan Hussain Manik has said that he very much believes that the no confidence motion against the Vice President Dr. Ahmed Jameel Mohamed would be on the agenda for next week Monday.
The no confidence motion against the Vice President went to the Parliament in this month as well. According to the Constitution, the Vice President has the right to defend himself verbally and in writing.
“It’s also been more than 14 days since the notice was sent. It’s 16 days passed when the session is held. Which means, the most important issue at the moment, I believe is taking a vote of no confidence against the Vice President.” MP Nihaan said.
The amendment to the Parliament Regulation says that a decision has to be made about a no confidence motion even if the Vice President does not attend the Parliament session on the day the motion is scheduled.
Article 100 of the Constitution says that Vice President can be removed from office with the vote of 2/3 of the Parliament which is 57 of the 85 members.
The no confidence motion against the Vice President was submitted to the Parliament with the signatures of 61 MPs.
Vice President Dr. Jameel is currently in London. He has said that removing him from power is a coup with the Constitution.
