Kudahuvadhoo breakwater construction project assigned to MT Hojgaard

The Rf23m project to construct the breakwater and harbour in Kudahuvadhoo in Dhaalu atoll has been assigned to MT Hojgaard.

Under the agreement signed between the Maldivian government and MT Hojgaard today, the 446 meter breakwater and harbour repair work must be completed within 300 days.

Speaking at the ceremony, which was attended by Meedhoo MP Ahmed Siyam and Kudahuvadhoo MP Ahmed Amir, Housing Minister Dr Mohamed Muiz said that this project is funded by the state.

He mentioned that this project was included in last year’s budget as well, but could not be commenced last year.

Speaking at the ceremony, Siyam noted that the entire atoll’s fishermen were badly in need of a breakwater in Kudahuvadhoo; however the request from the former government to construct a breakwater went unmet.

“The current government has listened and attended to the people’s needs over a very short period of time, and laid the foundation for an agreement regarding this project,” Siyam said.

Amir said that efforts over the past three years to resolve the problems arising from the lack of a harbour in Kudahuvadhoo were unsuccessful. He expressed his gratitude to the new government for commencing this project within three months.

“We were repeatedly pleading with the former government, but they chose not to listen. We thank the efforts of Housing Minister Dr Muiz and the new government,” Amir said.
