MIRA filed a Lawsuit against Giraavaru

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) filed a lawsuit in Civil court yesterday against Abdur Rauf of M.Snow Rose demanding $2.5 million owed by Giraavaru Island Resort to the government.

MIRA has demanded the fine of $2,519,276.98 for failing to pay the resort lease rent on time. The resort failed to pay the lease rents for the second half of the year 2008, and the lease rents of year 2009 and year 2010 on time.

MIRA said today that Mr. Abdur Rauf has to pay a fine of 0.5 percent of the rent per every day delayed. MIRA has asked the court to order Abdur Rauf to pay the whole money in one payment.

The court was adjourned the hearing yesterday after giving Rauf 10 days to respond to the charges. Next hearing is scheduled to 23rd of this month.
