Vice President Mohamed Waheeddeen has said that he won’t let anything bad happen to Arabiyya as long as he is alive.
Speaking at the ceremony held at Iskandar School to mark Arabiyya School’s silver jubilee, Waheeddeen said that he will not let anything bad happen to Arabiyya regardless of whether he is part of the government or not.
“God willing, whether I am part of the government or not, I won’t let anything bad happen to Arabiyya School for as long as I live,” Vice President said.
He said that a school’s budget should not be less based on the language they use or their medium of study. Education, regardless of the language it is taught in, is something that helps develop people, and Arabiyya School should be provided the development it deserves.
“I, President Waheed, ministers, and coalition parties are working on making Arabiyya a school where services similar to other schools are available,” Waheeddeen said.
Waheeddeen said that he had plans to provide higher education from abroad for four students who leave Arabiyya School every year.
He noted the importance of education in Arabic, and noted that the only option afterwards is not to become an Imam, but people with an Arabic education can serve the country in many useful ways.
Speaking at the ceremony, Islamic Minister Sheikh Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed said that as a past student of the school, he would like to see the day when Arabiyya becomes an international school.
He stressed the importance of Arabiyya School in maintaining Islamic character in the country, and said that the current government will not neglect it.
“Developing Arabiyya, maintaining Arabiyya’s culture and sustaining Arabic in the country is a major aim of Dr Waheed,” Shaheem said.
Speaking at the ceremony, Education Minister Dr Asim Ahmed said that the ministry has high hopes for Arabiyya and that the current government will not obstruct Arabiyya in any way.
A special logo was launched at the ceremony, to mark the school’s 25th anniversary. The logo was launched by Education Minister Dr Asim, and it will be used during all future activities of Arabiyya School.
In addition, a fund box was opened to collect funds to hold activities to celebrate the silver jubilee. The fund box was launched by the Vice President. T-shirts and key chains with the new logo will be sold to raise money for the celebration activities.
