Pakistan donates 3 million dollars of financial aid to Maldives

Pakistan has donated USD 3.1 million (MVR 47.80 million) to the Maldives for various purposes.

Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon accepted the cheque on behalf of the Maldivian government from the Pakistani High Commissioner, Shaahid Mahmood at a special ceremony held at the Foreign Ministry.

Pakistan donated the money for two major causes. That is to buy a water storage tank under the Malé Water Crisis fund and for repairs at the Parliament. The donation comes after President Abdulla Yamin visited Pakistan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Foreign Minister Dhunya Maumoon expressed gratitude to the Pakistani government on behalf of the Maldives for maintaining a close relationship between the two countries and assured that the Maldives would continue to maintain that relationship.

The Pakistani High Commissioner, Shaahid Mahmood said while that the current Parliament building in use in the Maldives was build 17 years ago, USD 2 million are being donated for repairs to the building. And the rest is being donated to the Malé Water Crisis Management Fund.

The High Commissioner said that Pakistan would continue maintaining the 49-year-old friendship between Pakistan and the Maldives.
