A man has been arrested in Addu City for multiple robberies with a mask and a sharp object.
Police said that a 35-year-old Maldivian was arrested with a court order around 11:45 last night for three robberies in Hithadhoo, Addu City.
He has been charged with robberies from shops after threatening with a sharp object for three consecutive nights starting last Wednesday. The shops he robbed are Hithadhoo’s Arizone shop, Rising Star shop and Impaala shop.
“When his residence and some things at the place was searched with a court order, we found money and items believed to be loot from his robberies along with the helmet he used to cover his face, the weapon he used, four rubber packets suspected of drugs and a big piece of cellophane containing what is believed to be drugs.” Police said.
Police said today that theft and robberies are significantly down in this year’s Ramadan. 28 theft and robberies were reported to the Police in the first week of Ramadan. In normal months, that number exceeds above 100.
