A pregnant woman being treated at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) for Dengue Fever has died.
Sources say that the woman who died last night was 18-year-old Hamdha Hassan of N. Maalhendhoo.
The Media Official of IGMH, Zeenath Ali Habeeb tols Sun Media today that the 18-year-old Hamdha died at 2:20 a.m. after she was moved to ICU when her condition got critical. She was admitted to the hospital with Dengue Fever last Thursday.
She was 12 weeks along when she died.
Vice President of the Maalhendhoo Island Council, Mohamed Hassan told Sun Media today that Hamdha died while she was with her first child. The Councilor said that she married recently.
Minister of Health, Irthisham Adam has said that compared to previous years, Dengue Fever is spreading at an “alarming” rate.
Minister said that in Male’ City alone, 125 cases have been reported up to last Thursday. Minister Irthisham said that 249 cases from the Atolls have been registered.
“And so to be protected from Dengue Fever, I advise on behalf of the Ministry of Health and the Government of the Honorable President, Abdulla Yamin Abdul Gayoom to continue with mosquito control programs.” The Minister said.
Minister Irthisham said that working towards controlling mosquitoes to prevent Dengue Fever is a responsibility of everyone.
