Funds issued to political parties

Elections Commission (EC) has issued the funds allocated in the State Budget to political parties, to seven parties.

EC said that the seven parties that had had followed the procedures prescribed in Article 35 of the Political Parties Act, and hence received the money, are Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), Adhaalath Party (AP), Dhivehi Rayyithunge Party (DRP), Islamic Democratic Party (IDP), Jumhooree Party (JP), Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), and Maldives Development Alliance (MDA).

The documents necessary for the issuance of funds were sent to the Ministry of Finance yesterday, EC said.

The party which received that largest sum, MVR 7 million, is MDP. The party has 44,608 registered members.

The second largest party, PPM, with 36,236 members, received MVR 5.4 million; the third, DRP, with 14,750 members, received MVR 2.2 million; the fourth, JP, with 13,990 members, received MVR 2.1 million; the fifth, AP, with 9,000 members, received MVR 1.3 million; the sixth, MDA, with 7,666 members, received MVR 1 million; and the seventh, IDP, with 2,148 members, received MVR 300,000.
