Shifaz arrested at MDP campaign hall

The Deputy President of MDP, Shifaz Mohamed has been arrested by the Police during a speech at the MDP campaign hall.

While Shifaz was arrested while giving a speech using a megaphone after 11 p.m., the Police did not give the cause for his arrest.

It is likely that he was arrested for using a megaphone after 11 p.m. The use of megaphones after 11 p.m. is against the law. But it was at a function at the MDP campaign hall, not a protest rally.

MDP says that the Police came into the campaign hall without a court order. MDP Spokesperson and the MP for the North-Maafannu constituency, Inthiyaz Fahumee (Inthi) said that it was a cowardly political act by the government to suppress MDP.
