Three judges assigned to southern branch of High Court

Supreme Court has assigned three judges to the southern branch of the High Court.

Out of the nine judges of the High Court, the judges who were assigned to the southern branch are Shuaib Hussain Zakariyya, Abbas Shareef, and Azmiralda Zahir.

Supreme Court said in a statement issued today that according to the First Amendment to the Judicature Act, it is the responsibility of the Supreme Court to assign judges to the branches of the High Court to be established in two regions of the country.

Supreme Court further said that the relevant procedures and Article 141 of the Constitution were considered in the process of assigning the three judges to the southern branch of the High Court.

The amendment to the Judicature Act states that branches of the High Court shall be established in two regions in the country, to allow verdicts issued by the Magistrate Courts in the two regions to be appealed in the regional High Court branches.
