High Court has rejected the appeal case filed by Adhaalath Party (AP) President Imran Abdulla in relation to the court order to keep him in police custody until the end of his trial.
Imran was arrested on suspicion of terrorism following the mass protest in Malé on 1 May 2015.
High Court said in its decision today that judges have the power to issue court orders to hold suspects in police custody for the duration of their trial proceedings, and that it had been decided earlier by the Supreme Court that such cases cannot be reviewed by appeal courts.
Imran was arrested for inciting violence during the protest, which culminated in several police officers being assaulted by protesters.
