Waste created in Mal

The number of waste created in Malé City has double since Ramadan began and Malé City Council has increased the number of boats used to transport waste to four.

Malé City Council has been using three boats to take the waste from Malé to Thilafushi but the City Council Member, Samau Shareef says that they have found another 100 ft. boat to deliver the waste to Thilafushi this Ramadan.

“The waste has doubled compared to regular days, so we’ve increased the number of boats used.” Councilor Samau Shareef said.

He said that the most common waste these days are foods. While four boats are being used 24 hours to transport the waste, more trips are needs for this than any other task.

A foreigner working at one of the boats transporting waste told Sun Media that they used to make two trips to Thilafushi before and now they make up to four trips.

Statistics from the Malé City Council shows that the number of waste generated in the City has doubled.
