Ministry of Health has announced that the prolonged construction of the 11-storey annex of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) will be completed by 25 July 2015.
The last estimated date of completion for the project was 28 February 2015.
Minister of Health Iruthisham Adam told TVM today that 90 percent of the project has already been completed.
The project, funded by the government of India, will see the establishment of a private ward, a basement store, a surgical ward, and a paediatric ward.
Iruthisham Adam also said that the renovation of the laboratory of IGMH will begin on 25 June 2015.
The government assigned the remaining part of the 11-storey building project to Amin Construction in February 2013. Then Minister of Health Dr Ahmed Jamsheed said at the signing ceremony, that the project would be funded by a loan from the Islamic Bank and completed within eight months.
Speaking at the ceremony, Managing Director of Amin Construction Abdulla Mohamed said that the project had been delayed due to outstanding payments to the company.
IGMH, one of two main hospitals in Malé, is often overcrowded and faces serious problems due to lack of space.
