Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has sent their case to the Prosecutor General’s (PG) Office to prosecute five Councilors from G.A. Dhaandhoo for using influence of their position to profit specific people.
PG’s Office was asked to prosecute Shuaib Abdulla, Mohamed Aasif, Imran Waheed, Mifraahu Ali and Fadhna Adam.
ACC said they are being prosecuted for the unanimous vote of the five members to give the salary to Councilor Mifraahu Ali while he has not come to work for his duties in January 2014.
They said that the island’s Magistrate Court has decided that the decision was against the law and it was made to benefit Mifraahu.
The salary and bonuses of the Councilors are decided by the Parliament and the salary has to be deducted for the days missed and late according to the local governance law.
ACC said that the Local Governance Authority (LGA) has a related law regarding the parliament decision but the Dhaandhoo Council has decided not to implement it. The ACC also noted that the Councilors took more leave than the Article C of the law allows.
