Census report may be delayed to next year

Ministry of Finance and Treasury has said that there is no guarantee that all census reports can be released before the end of the year.

The countrywide population census was held in September 2014.

Deputy Minister of Finance Mohamed Zuhair told Sun Online that the ministry’s target was to release the reports before the end of the year.

He said that many reports related to the census will be released this year, and the first report detailing population figures, migration, prices and income, is expected to be published by the end of next month.

The thematic report, however, might be delayed to next year, said Zuhair.

Problems were reported some months ago regarding remuneration for the 3,500 officials who conducted the census.

The population census is normally held every five years; however, the 2014 census came after an eight-year break. The last one was conducted in 2006.
