The largest floating solar panel in the Maldives has been established in Gili Lankanfushi Resort.

According to Gili Lankanfushi, the idea of Swimsol, the Austrian company it has partnered with for this project, is to bring green power to parts of the world where land space is limited, such as the Maldives.

Gili Lankanfushi said that the 15x15 meter floating solar power structure is designed to survive waves and water turbulence, and consists of glass fibre tubes, aluminium frames, and 112 solar panels.

Weighing over 5 tonnes, it has a nominal capacity of 28 KW and on sunny days can produce up to 200 kWh - enough to power the equivalent of the resort’s pathways, jetty lights, and Front Office lighting for 12 hours.

Gili Lankanfushi said that the platform will reduce its carbon footprint by 35 tonnes of CO2 per year.
