Minister of Tourism, Ahmed Adheeb has said that by the end of the year, a model would be announced to sell shares to resort staff as promised.
Speaking at the press conference at Velaanaage regarding the International Tourism Conference in Maldives, Minister Adheeb said that policies are being formed to sell shares as per the PPM manifesto.
“There are a lot of resorts with government shares, and being developed. A model is being prepared to allocate all those shares to the public.” Minister Adheeb said.
Minister Adheeb said that when the selling begins, it has to be started after proper research. And without careful handling, it could lead to a negative impact.
“Share has to be profitable in the long term.” Adheeb said.
Minister said that it is possible to sell shares from resorts with government shares and resorts operated with companies with government shares. And it cannot be forced on private companies but hope that private sector would take part when it starts.
Using Singapore as an example, Minister Adheeb said that Singapore started selling shares with the government initiative but now, the private sector takes part as well.
