End to traffic stickers and fines

MP for the Vilimale’ constituents and the President of the PMM’s Parliamentary Group, Ahmed Nihan Hussain Manik has said that President Yamin is trying to put an end to traffic stickers and forgive the pending fines for the stickers.

MP Nihah told Sun Media tonight that President Yamin has begun the amendment for the land transportation law.

He said that while Male’ City does not have sufficient space for parking, the number of vehicles have exceeded. And a large number of youth now owes money to the state as fines.

“A lot of the youth park wherever they want and when they get a traffic sticker, to get the fine money they go to their parents. Or to a brother or a sister. If they are working, they have nothing to give to the house after paying the fines.” Nihan said.

MP Nihan said that President Yamin is observing the troubles of the people very closely.

“President Yamin checks up on the youth, the elderly, the travellers and everybody of the nation. Because the President observes what happens to them and their troubles very closely, the PG (Parliamentary Group) receives instructions from the president to look further into this or that and bring the changes to the law.” MP Nihan said.

MP Nihan said that an amendment to the transportation law would be presented to the parliament in the second session of this year.

While President Yamin is trying to bring amendments to the transportation law, the MP for Hulhu-Henveiru constituents, Moosa Manik has also presented an amendment to the transportation law.

His amendment to the law raised the fines in traffic violations.

The bill presented by MP Moosa Manik states that the fine for speeding for the first time would be MVT 1000. The current law states that the fine is MVR 500. The amendment by MP Moosa Manik states that the fine for speeding a second time would be MVR 1500.

But the current law states that the fine for speeding a second time is MVR 750. The amendment states that the fine for speeding a third time would be MVR 2000. And every time after the second time, the speeders would have their driving license suspended for three months.
