Chairman of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Mohamed Simon has said that development of the area reclaimed under phase two of the Hulhumalé Reclamation Project, will begin at the end of the year.

In an interview today, Simon told Sun Online that this will include housing, road construction, water and electricity projects.

He added that a yacht marina and an area dedicated to financial institutions will be also established at the reclaimed area.

About 8,000 new jobs are expected to be created in the tourism sector alone following the development of this area in Hulhumalé.

HDC has said that 245 hectares have been reclaimed under the phase two of the Hulhumalé Reclamation Project.

Simon said that the project to build revetments in this area is ongoing, and will be completed by March 2016. The $10 million project is carried out by an Indian company.
