The National Movement has said that the government called for discussions with the opposition due to the pressure from the people.
Responding to a question from Sun Media at the press conference this afternoon at the office of Adhaalath Party, the Deputy Leader of the Jumhooree Party, Ameen Ibrahim said that only President Yamin would know if there was international pressure for the government to request talks with the opposition for a second time. But there was pressure from the people of the country.
Ameen said that there must be an honest intent when the government called for discussion a second time.
“I also saw a copy of the letter from the government. But didn’t see any requirements set by the government on that letter. Then we saw an agenda from it. And then the government sent letters to the parties individually. And the parties would respond to it individually.” Ameen said.
Ameen also called for the release of the Leader of Adhaalath Party, Sheikh Imran and The MDP Chairperson, Ali Waheed along with others arrested with political motives.
“Some of the people in today’s government have very much confused the laws of the constitution and the basis of a sound mind. It has been confused so much that this tyranny has gone to extremes. I think they have to be better told to look at the laws and things. Calling for the release of someone who is imprisoned is not against the law.” Ameen said.
Government today has publicized the reasons they want to discuss with the opposition.
The first reason is to find a solution within the law to resolve the political uneasiness in the country and work together.
The second reason is working to strengthen the democracy in the country and strengthen the judicial and other systems. The third reason for discussions with the opposition is to work towards development of the country.
