State argues for death penalty against Hana

The State has claimed at the appeal hearing in High Court today, that Fathimath Hana should be given the death sentence for her involvement in the murder of Ahmed Najeeb.

The State Prosecutor said that many religious scholars agree that death penalty can be given for being an accomplice to a murder.

He said that in addition to planning Najeeb’s murder one month in advance with her boyfriend Ahmed Murrath, Hana also assisted Murrath carry out the murder as planned.

Hana’s job, as planned, was to tied Najeeb to the chair, and she had confessed to being involved in the process of tying him to the chair, the State Prosecutor said.

Najeeb was murdered on the night of 1 July 2012.

Hana and her boyfriend Murrath have been convicted of the murder and given the death penalty by the lower court. Both sentences have been appealed in High Court.
