MP Mahloof: Won

Galolhu-South MP Ahmed Mahloof has said that he would not talk about the death of religious scholar Dr Afrasheem Ali, to achieve political goals.

Mahloof made this remark at an opposition-led rally at Artificial Beach on Thursday night.

He said that he had never claimed that Dr Afrasheem was murdered by President Abdulla Yameen.

“But considering rumours and how things have transpired, the case must be investigated as a serious matter,” he said.

Mahloof also swore that he only talks about Dr Afrasheem’s death as informed by Dr Afrasheem’s family, and urged the people who found his remarks defamatory, to take the matter to court.

This comes after former President Maumoon Abdul Gayoom said recently, that defamation charges should be filed against opposition parties for their allegation that President Yameen was involved in Dr Afrasheem’s death.

Gayoom condemned this allegation and said that it should not be tolerated.
