Faris Maumoon wins PPM Dhiggaru Primary

The Primary of the Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM) for the upcoming By-election for Dhiggaru constituency, has been won by Faris Maumoon.

Faris won the election by 289 votes. His opponent Meemu Atoll Council President Moosa Naseer gained 142 votes.

The Primary was held in Dhiggaru, Maduvvari, Veyvah, and Muli - the islands in the Dhiggaru constituency - and Dharubaaruge in Malé.

Voting was not possible in Raiymandhoo.

The results are as follows:

Meemu Maduvvari

Faris Maumoon: 32 votes

Moosa Naseer: 10 votes

Meemu Veyvah

Faris Maumoon: 16 votes

Moosa Naseer: 26 votes

Meemu Muli

Faris Maumoon: 124 votes

Moosa Naseer: 47 votes

Meemu Dhiggaru

Faris Maumoon: 76 votes

Moosa Naseer: 34 votes

Malé

Faris Maumoon: 41 votes

Moosa Naseer: 25 votes

Voting was held between 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. today. The total number of eligible voters was 512.

Main opposition party, Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has scheduled its Dhiggaru Primary for Monday.

The Dhiggaru By-election will be held on 6 June 2015.
