Lightning strikes Thimarafushi

Lightning has struck several locations in Thaa Thimarafushi.

Hussain Shareef, President of Thimarafushi Council, told Sun Online that the lightning, which occurred between 10:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., caused power cuts and damaged electronic items in some houses in the reclaimed area in the island.

Efforts are ongoing in cooperation with the island power station to restore power and solve other problems, he said.

Some electronic items in the island Magistrate Court were also damaged in the incident.

Shareef said that the island has experienced heavy rain since last night.

The Department of Meteorology said that no incidents of lightning have been reported.
