The second victim of the accident in Kulhudhuffushi has also died after being in a coma for one week.
Adam Sinah, 18, of Feyrugasdhoshuge, Kulhudhuffushi, suffered serious injuries in the accident which took place on 23 April, and died at around 5:30 this morning at IGM Hospital.
The first victim, Ahmed Ibrahim, 21, of Dhitthundi, Kulhudhuffushi, died early morning of the day of the accident at Kulhudhuffushi Hospital.
Police informed that both men suffered serious head injuries and bleeding through the nose and ears. When Police arrived at the scene, one man was under the motorcycle, and the other was lying about 14ft away from the motorcycle. Both were unconscious.
Sinah’s stepfather Ahmed Azeem said that doctors had already indicated that there was no hope when Sinah was taken for treatment at IGMH. Sinah’s mother is under extreme distress following her son’s death; she has been admitted at Kulhudhuffushi Hospital.
Azeem said that investigations so far do not indicate that the victims were speeding on their motorcycles. It is unclear why they suffered such serious injuries.
“As far as we know, they weren’t speeding too much. The motorcycle was not damaged much either. So we don’t know why this happened. Both victims had similar injuries. It might be that the angle from which they hit the wall resulted in those injuries,” Azeem said.
Azeem said that his stepson often goes out for coffee with friends in the night, and believes that this is why he went out on the night of the accident as well.
Police believes that the accident occurred when the motorcycle hit the wall of Havaanaage in Kulhudhuffushi. The reason behind this is so far unknown.
