Criminal Court has scheduled a hearing for Friday (tomorrow), for delivering the verdict against former Minister of Defence Tholhath Ibrahim Kaleyfaan, on terrorism charges in relation to the arrest of Chief Judge of Criminal Court Abdulla Mohamed in 2012.
The judge made this announcement following the presentation of the concluding statements by Tholhath’s lawyer at today’s hearing.
The state prosecutor said in court today that based on the evidence and testimonies presented in court, Tholhath should be found guilty on terrorism charges. He said that Tholhath played a major role in the decision to arrest the judge, the discussions regarding the arrest of the judge, the forcible arrest of the judge, as well as holding the judge under arrest in Girifushi.
Tholhath’s lawyer, on the other hand, said that the arrest was carried out as ordered by former President Mohamed Nasheed, and there are no legal grounds to charge Tholhath with terrorism.
The court has also scheduled hearings for tomorrow night, for issuing verdicts against Mohamed Ziyad and Moosa Ali Jaleel on terrorism charges in relation to the same case.
