The vice president of MDP, Mohamed Shifaz said that Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM) is stuck without being able to guarantee the rights assured by the constitution which are being obstructed against the MDP.
Speaking to the media after his meeting with the heads of HRCM, Shifaz said that HRCM is an institute that has lost it’s freedom.
He said that since more than 150 members of MDP have been conditioned to stay away from rallies for 60 days, it has been days since the case have been submitted to the HRCM and their investigation is still not complete.
“They said that they were discussing it. And they would receive a legal review very soon. That Commission is stuck in a legal review.” Shifaz said.
The Vice President of the party said that even individual citizens have reported the issue of protestors being conditioned not to take part in the rallies to the HRCM and there is no mention of conditioning like that mentioned in the constitution.
