Government won

Vice President Mohamed Waheeddeen (Deen) has said that the current government will not take revenge on any particular person.

Speaking at a press conference held at President’s Office today, VP Deen said that he is assured that President Dr Mohamed Waheed Hassan Manik will not entertain the idea of taking revenge on anyone.

“The current government will not take revenge on anyone. I can say with confidence that President Waheed has no such plan, and neither do I.”

When asked if the government might arrest former President Nasheed, VP Deen said that the government is not interested in arresting and sending Nasheed to prison:

“The government isn’t trying to send Nasheed to prison. We won’t do that in the future either. It’s not something we want to do.”

VP Deen said that when he joined former President Gayoom’s administration, several people commented that he had assumed the responsibility to ‘bail water out of a sinking boat’. He said that he joined the current government to ‘bail water out of a sinking boat’ as well, and that he will ‘bail’ with all his might:

“The ship is somewhat flooded. So first we have to take all measures to prevent it from sinking. There’s the airport to think about, and plenty of other issues. First we have to straighten up this ship.

People said when I joined Gayoom’s administration, that I had just got on-board a sinking ship. I told them, I went on-board to bail out the boat. Once again I am on-board to bail out the boat, and I will bail with all my might.”
