Employees of National Offices will be given permanent employment soon: Home Ministry

Ministry of Home Affairs has said that they are working with the cooperation of Civil Service Commission to give permanent employment to former employees of National Offices.

Minister of State for Home Affairs Abdullah Mohamed said today that no employee of National Offices created by former President Nasheed will become unemployed, and that following the abolishment of the National Offices, they have been transferred to Island Councils

“The work is ongoing, to transfer them to permanent employment. Home Ministry is doing what is necessary in this regard, and Civil Service Commission and other institutions are doing the same,” Abdullah said.

He said that several of these employees were working in their own islands, and priority will be given to reemploy them in their islands. In the event that an employee wants to work but employment is not possible in their island, they may have to relocate to where a job is available:

“Everyone will want to work in their own island. We will give them the opportunity to do that, the best we can. If that’s not possible, they may have to make some sacrifices in order to remain employed. We will prioritise settling this issue such that their rights are not compromised.”

Abdullah said that about 150 employees were employed at the National Offices established by the former administration in seven regions of the country.

Former President Mohamed Nasheed abolished Province Offices and created National Offices in seven regions after the local elections held in March 2011. Current President Mohamed Waheed officially abolished the National Offices last Tuesday.
