A study has revealed that ADK was the hospital where most people used the services of the social health insurance scheme Aasandha in the past three months, resulting in more than Rf40m being spent on ADK alone by Aasandha during this period.
The report on Aasandha created by Parliament’s Financial Committee revealed that ADK served 45218 outpatients without repetition. ADK made 104454 transactions via Aasandha, resulting in Rf46.7m being spent on ADK.
IGM Hospital served 45324 outpatients without repetition in the past three months; however, the expenditure by Aasandha on IGMH is Rf34.2m. Central Clinics served 17069 patients, resulting in an expenditure of Rf11.3m. Aasandha spent Rf8.5m on Central Medical Centre, and Rf1.3m on IMDC. In total, Aasandha spent Rf102m on hospitals in Male’ during the past three months.
Committee members noted in their debate that while IGMH is in need of development, a large proportion of Aasandha money is spent on the private hospital ADK and about three clinics in Male’. Some members accused the hospitals of charging people for services which are not absolutely necessary.
Aasandha spent Rf43.3m on atoll hospitals and health centres during the past three months. Rf44.4m was spent on pharmacies, Rf4m was spent on optical services, Rf6.5m was spent on tickets for domestic and international travel, and Rf24.7m was spent on medical treatment abroad.
Since Aasandha service began in January 2012, 92630 people have been served, with a total expenditure of Rf225m.
The state budget for Aasandha, which promises free healthcare up to Rf100,000 to every citizen, is Rf720m. The Financial Committee has estimated that the budget will run out in August or September this year. Aasandha Company has reported that their daily expenditure is about Rf3m.
