The president’s nomination to the Election Commission, Ahmed Akram has been approved by the Parliament’s Committee for Independent Institutions.
In a report published by the committee after looking into the nomination, it says that Ahmed Akram is viable as a member of the Election Commission.
The report says that his credibility was check with five different institutes which includes the Criminal Court, High Court, Supreme Court, Maldives Correctional Service and the Election Commission.
It also says that he scored 91 percent on the committee interview.
While the parliament committee has approved Ahmed Akram, he was the former Deputy Secretary General of the opposition MDP.
He resigned the position last November.
