Hulhumal

The second phase of the Hulhumalé Reclamation Project has been completed.

Managing Director of Housing Development Corporation (HDC) Mohamed Simon told Sun Online that the work was completed by 1:00 a.m. last night (Sunday night), following which the dredger employed in this project, the Leiv Eiriksson, departed from the Maldives.

The second phase, which saw the reclamation of 240 hectares, began on 10 January 2015.

The new land will engulf the nearby island of Farukolhufushi and the expanded area will be designed to support a population of 100,000 people, HDC said earlier.
