Bill to amend the asset distribution after divorce goes to parliament

Today, the parliament accepted the bill of amendment to the family law regarding fair asset distribution after divorce.

The bill was accepted by the vote of 41 members of the parliament. And four members voted against it.

The bill submitted by the government via the MP for the Didhdhoo constituents Abdul-Latheef Mohamed says that all assets and money acquired in the duration of the marriage should be distributed fairly between both parties. The bill also says that the items for distribution would be decided by the court.

Under the reasons for the amendment includes the “Saving families from poverty after marriage ends” promise from the government’s manifesto.

This bill would also set the terms for the government’s “If the marriage ends, the fair share would be given” promise which would mean that both parties in the marriage would get their fair share if the marriage ends.
