A case has been submitted to the parliament accusing the MP for the South-Galholhu constituents Ahmed Mahloof of assaulting the MP for Vilufushi constituents Riyaz Rasheed.
The MP for Mahibadhoo constituents, who submitted the case to parliament, sent a letter to the President of the Parliament Abdulla Maseeh Mohamed requesting to investigate the assault case. And the MP for Hoarafushi constituents Mohamed Moosa and the MP for Guraidhoo constituents Ibrahim Rizaa are witnesses to the assault.
Mahloof sent out a tweet regarding the case today saying that it was an attempt to discredit him and a threat to him.
MPs of MDP and Jumhooree Party (JP) protested and called for the release of former President Mohamed Nasheed and former Defence Minister Mohamed Nazim, while President Abdulla Yameen presented his speech at the inaugural sitting of the parliament. The President however completed his speech amid the noise and chaos, without any disruption.
